New lentil varieties highlighted at Ag in Motion
The wet year has been a plus for lentil breeding, putting new lines to the test, while new lentil varieties promising higher yields will be available to lentil growers for next year
By Janelle Rudolph for the Western ProducerLentil crop plots look a little bit different at SeCan’s Ag in Motion booth this year. CDC Jimini has replaced CDC Invincible as the check, and there are three new varieties that will soon be in the hands of farmers.
CDC Berilo, CDC Albberg and CDC Onyx have been in the pipeline for years and offer various improvements, namely yield upgrades. The main focus of the Crop Development Centre’s breeding program has been on yield, disease and marketability.
